The conference was attended by representatives of the Center for Disease Control in Tirana - SECID, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency, the Bulgarian Society for Innovative Medicine, the Directors and Epidemiologists of the RHIs in the Country, the Risk Assessment Center and veterinary specialists from all regional FSA, the Departments of Epidemiology of Medical Universityes of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Stara Zagora and Pleven and the Military Medical Academy.
In the biological part interesting and relevant topics were addressed, as the problem of decreesing populations of the local Balkan honey bee, the factors determining the expansion of the pine processionary' areal and the tracking of DNA damage in striped field mouse cells as a biomarker for genotoxicity.
Green Balkans presented data on pilot study on abundance and density of cetaceans’ populations in Strandzha SPA' marine area.
In the poster session the participants of the conference had the opportunity to get acquainted with interesting studies and data from different scientific fields. The poster of Green Balkans, IO-BAS and PU, presented by Dimitar Popov and colleagues, on the topic "Pingers as a mitigating measure for the by-catch of cetaceans in turbot fishing in Bulgaria" aroused great interest. The lack of research in this area, as well as the data collected so far from the pilot study conducted in the spring and summer of this year, sparked discussions and showed that this was a topic of concern to both the fishing industry and the scientific community.
