One of the most significant obstacles to the conservation of Black Sea ecosystems is the lack of understanding from the society on the importance of such activities. The vulnerability and threats to marine life have become clichés that do not reach people in the right way. Green Balkans' newest project, Environmental Education and Maritime Literacy in the Black Sea Basin (EOL), aims to address this very problem. The EOL project is dedicated to changing the way we teach knowledge about the sea, so that it reaches not only the minds, but also the hearts of people, provoking empathy for the problems of marine ecosystems.
The project unites the efforts of partners from three countries - Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria - and on October 16, the first workshop was held with local NGOs and institutions. More than 15 participants from the three countries discussed in an online format the problems in the protection of marine ecosystems and the involvement of society in these activities. The main goal is for people to recognize the threats to the sea as their own, and the efforts to protect its ecosystems as a common duty of the whole society. Therefore, within the framework of such online meetings, we aim to hear the opinion of various representatives of the public about their views on the problems and gaps in the way the idea of marine resource protection reaches more people.
The sea is a wild ecosystem! It provides resources to the whole society. Therefore, its conservation is responsibility and cause of all of us!
