Last week, on the occasion of World Oceans Day, we held two more trainings on Environmental and Ocean Literacy. The trainings were for municipal employees and brought together representatives of various institutions in Shabla and Burgas. In Shabla, the Green Education Center - Shabla was the host. In Burgas, we visited the International Youth Center.
We introduced the Environmental and Ocean Literacy Program, talked about the need for more such events, and why it is important to keep talking about human society's dependence on wild ecosystems.
Environmental and Ocean Literacy is a concept aimed at non-specialists, at the whole society. At its core is the understanding that wild ecosystems provide absolutely all the necessary resources to our society, to all of us. And the sea is a wild ecosystem. And in order to function in a balanced way, which guarantees people's access to all its resources, it needs all its components functioning in harmony.
This determines the general responsibility of the entire society for the protection of marine ecosystems. And one of the goals of the EOL project, within the framework of which these trainings are conducted, is to show young people - the future of our society, that the personal contribution of each person to the protection of the sea, its inhabitants and cleanliness is most important.
The training was held within the framework of the project BSB00432 "Environmental Education and Ocean Literacy in the Black Sea Basin", co-financed by the EU through the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin 2021-2027 program.
