The activities of Green Balkans on research and conservation of Black Sea marine mammals, carried out with the support of OceanCare, as well as birds in Pomorie Lake, within the LIFE for Pomorie Lagoon project, were presented at the International Conference "One Health and Zoology", which took place in the period September 27-29, 2023 in Hisarya.
The scientific forum is organized by the University of Plovdiv "Paisiy Hilendarski" - Department of Zoology, the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Medical University - Plovdiv, the Bulgarian Scientific Society for Epidemiology of Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency with the active support of the Ministry of Health and Southeast European Center for Infectious Disease Surveillance and Control in Tirana.

The Association's participation was in the form of a presentation and a poster. The presentation was about the results of the four annual surveys conducted during the summer season on the number, density and distribution of cetaceans in the Bulgarian shelf waters of the Black Sea. The poster presented the results of the studies of the nesting bird species protected in the Pomorie Lake and the impact of the environmental protection activities carried out within the LIFE19 NAT/BG/000804 "Life for the Pomorie Lagoon" project.
One Health is an integrated, unifying approach in Ecology that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. The approach focuses on zoonotic diseases and their control by bringing together experts in the fields of humanitarian and veterinary medicine, zoology and environmental protection. The main idea is that a healthy society requires a healthy environment, biodiversity and ecosystems functioning in a balanced and sustainable manner, and the topic is especially relevant today in the face of climate change.
The forum provided an opportunity for scientific researchers, university professors, students, zoologists, ecologists, veterinarians, epidemiologists, microbiologists, virologists and other experts to present scientific results and exchange experiences and ideas.
