A Green Balkans team presented the association's project - Environmental Education and Marine Literacy in the Black Sea Basin (EOL) - at the MARBLUE international conference in Constanta, Romania. Information about the project and its upcoming activities was included in the poster session of the conference.
The aim of the international conference is to contribute to the conservation of the Black Sea by supporting sustainable development. The conference provided a space for fruitful discussions between science and business related to both fundamental research and technological innovation.
The conference was organized in several sessions covering all aspects of Black Sea research and conservation. Session VI was devoted to 'Marine Literacy and Education'. This is the area where the EOL project activities are focused. During the session, scientists and specialists from all over the world discussed the problems facing the conservation of the sea and the involvement of the whole society in this process, the ways in which the information should reach a wider audience, as well as proposals for deeper and more fruitful cooperation between the specialists in the field.
During these few days of cooperation and exchange of experience and ideas, we managed to deepen and enrich our experience and knowledge about the needs of the educational system and methods of marine literacy. In discussions with colleagues working on the topic, it was found that the expected contribution of an EOL project would be significant in view of the fact that the target group is young people aged 18 - 35. Most of the examples presented and developed marine literacy programs worldwide so far have mainly been aimed at children and young people up to the age of 18.
