The first training of trainers within the framework of the EOL project took place from 10 to 14 March in Thessaloniki, Greece. Representatives of the NGO sector and local institutions from the three partner countries in the project – Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, took part in the first of two such trainings. The aim of the training is to prepare the participants to conduct meetings with young people, to whom the idea of ocean literacy will be presented, why it is important for each of them to recognize the cause of protecting the marine ecosystem as their own and, in turn, to set an example in this regard among their surroundings.
During the training, the participants were introduced to a Ocean Literacy Program, prepared specifically for the purpose of the project. Part of this program includes a number of games and activities that aim to convey, in a completely informal and free manner, the information that every person directly or indirectly connected to the sea needs to have.
The training also included initiatives and active participation of the future trainers. They developed their own interpretations of the program and found solutions to previously identified threats to the marine ecosystem.
As future teachers, the participants were also given an introduction to teaching methods with a focus on informal learning and practices, communication skills and conflict resolution.
We thank all participants for the exceptional enthusiasm and spirit with which they went through all the challenges we set before them.
