On Tuesday we visited Dobrich where we talked about the ecological network, our target species and their conservation.
The information campaign took place on the Central Square thanks to the good partnership with Youth Centre “Zahari Stoyanov” Dobrich, and the Municipality of Dobrich - Ecology Department. More than 100 people passed by and not only were they interested in facts about NATURA 2000 and the species, but also had questions, we were happy to answer.
Our friends from the Professional School of Veterinary Medicine “Prof. Dr. Geogri Pavlov”, Dobrich, also visited the event and we were able to reaffirm our long-standing cooperation.
In order to represent the information for the species in the best possible way, we used the models of the Griffon Vulture, the Sandwich Tern, the Lesser Kestrels and the Red-breasted Goose. The exhibitions for NATURA 2000, the Red-breasted Goose and the bats were available to all passers-by.
All visitors received information materials- book dividers with photos of the protected species, a board game about NATURA 2000, postcards and books with the story of Brent the Red-breasted Goose.

Natura 2000
Natura 2000 is the largest coordinated network for nature conservation. More than 30% of the territory of Bulgaria falls within the scope of the network - 120 areas for the protection of wild birds and 234 areas for the protection of natural habitats.
Red-breasted Goose
The Red-breasted Goose is a globally endangered species, protected within the Natura 2000 ecological network. Bulgaria is an important country for the protection of the species - almost the entire world population spends the winter in the region of Primorska Dobrudzha.
Vultures
There are four species of vultures in Europe - Griffon, Black, Egyptian and Bearded Vulture. All of them are strictly protected by Bulgarian and European legislation. As rare and valuable species, they fall under the protection of the European ecological network Natura 2000. Bulgaria is home to only three of them – the Griffon, Black and Egyptian Vulture. The Bearded Vulture - a symbol of Bulgarian nature protection is considered extinct from the country.
Cetaceans
There are 3 species of cetaceans in the Black Sea - Bottlenose Dolphin, Short-beaked Common Dolphin and Harbour Porpoise, endemic to our sea. Persecuted in the past, not much is known today about the state of the populations of the three species. The Bottlenose Dolphin and the Harbour Porpoise are subject to protection by the Natura 2000 ecological network and special marine protected areas are declared for their protection.
