Within the framework of the EOL project, together with our partners from Turkey and Greece, we developed a White Paper that summarizes the current state, the key challenges, and a set of recommendations addressed to responsible institutions and non-governmental organizations regarding marine ecological literacy in the Black Sea region.
The document is based on information and expert insights gathered during an international workshop held in Istanbul. The event brought together experts, representatives of civil society, and local institutions from the three project partner countries – Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey. Participants discussed gaps in national policies, legislation, and initiatives related to marine and environmental literacy, as well as the steps needed to address them.
During the discussions, a number of practical solutions and recommendations were proposed to improve existing practices, ensuring they respond to contemporary societal needs and align with internationally recognized standards and best practices.
All findings, analyses, and recommendations have been compiled and presented in the White Paper, which you can find attached here.
At a time when the space for wildlife continues to shrink, initiatives like this are essential for safeguarding the ecosystems of the Black Sea and the resources they provide to our society.
